Supporting communities to establish and manage eco-friendly enterprises in Kisarawe district.

The Tanzania Landscapes Restoration Organization (TaLRO), with funding from UNDP GEF/SGP, launched a poultry project in Kisarawe District to diversify livelihoods and reduce forest dependence near the Pugu-Kazimzumbwi Nature Reserve. Partnering with the Kisarawe District Council and Interchick Company Limited, TaLRO established a demonstration poultry site and distributed 500 Tanbro breed chicks to villagers. The project aims to empower women and youth through training, improve household incomes, and mitigate environmental degradation by reducing reliance on forest resources.

Objectives

  • 01

    Livelihood Diversification

Reduce forest dependence by promoting poultry farming as an alternative income source.

  • 02

    Capacity Building

Train 30+ women and youth in sustainable poultry management at micro, small, and medium scales.

  • 03

    Public-Private Partnership (PPP)

Collaborate with Interchick Company Limited and local government to ensure project sustainability.

  • 04

    Scalability

Use the Kisarawe demonstration site as a model for replication in Maguruwe, Vibula, and neighboring villages.
